Country Quilting Show
Each patch tells a story; a story that begins with pain and uncertainty and ends in healing.
There are 36 such stories by both adults and children, built lovingly into the Windows of Healing Quilt created by clients of the Ann Davis Transition Society. Each participant created a patch which documented her own journey to healing using fabric and a process called fusible web. Two local businesses donated quilting time and materials. The story on each panel bears a story of healing. All of the people who were involved in the process have experienced some type of violence in their background.
The quilt show invites quilters and fans of textile arts from throughout B.C. to display their talents. An all encompassing exposition, this show will display a wide range of quilts from beginners and seasoned "pros", as well as quilts passed down as heirlooms from generation to generation. All entries are eligible for the Peoples'Choice award, as chosen by the general public. There will be a raffle, vendors, refreshments and treats. The QuiltShow is sure to be a creative and inspiring weekend.
Historically, the needle arts provided an acceptable outlet for women's artistic expression and quilts communicated an individuals sense of colour and composition. Even people who never thread a needle can appreciate the care it takes to stitch a design for other's enjoyment. Come out to the Country Quilt Show in Harrison Mills at the Community Hall, October 15 & 16 from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is only $2.
